About the Lakewood Performing Arts Council |
|
LPAC is the tax-exempt (tax id number: 98-15894-0000), non-profit booster
organization which exists to render financial and logistical support to the
instrumental music programs at Lakewood High School. LPAC solicits new and renewal membership donations at the beginning of the Bengal Regiment’s summer practice season and again during school registration in August. However, you are welcome to join at any time during the year by making a donation at the following rates:
Individual...................................................Free For any questions concerning donations, please contact our Treasurer, Shawn DeJong at . Who We Are: The membership of LPAC is composed primarily of parents, instructors, friends and students. Corporate and commercial memberships are also warmly appreciated. The governing body is a Board of four officers elected each May: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The officers serve for a one year term; June 1-May 31. When We Meet: LPAC holds general meetings on the second Tuesday of each month (starting in August 2008) at 7:00 pm at Lakewood High School. Attending these meetings is just one way you can participate in LPAC’s activities supporting our music programs. The agendas include reports from Mr. Stephen and the officers of the LPAC Board, Old and New Business. The best part is planning the next fun way to work alongside our kids! How We Communicate with You: If you cannot attend LPAC meetings you can still keep up to date by being sure we have your e-mail address to send newsletters to, viewing the newsletter at our website ( www.LPAC.info ), or requesting a copy of the last meeting’s minutes from the Board Secretary. What We Do: In order to maintain the high quality of our students’ experience at Lakewood, it is vital to supplement the District’s ever-decreasing budget for the Instrumental Music Department’s programs. LPAC works tirelessly to ensure that funding is always available to keep these programs running smoothly. Through a variety of sales opportunities and, most especially, our Bingo* program, LPAC has been able to improve the safety, quality and fun our kids have participating in the school’s award-winning ensembles. But it’s not all about fundraising! There is LOTS of other fun and useful stuff for members to do, and one of the biggest payoffs to us personally is that the students really appreciate our efforts and are glad to have us hanging around. During marching season there are constant opportunities to help serve meals, fit uniforms, “push pit,” etc. Parents and friends of Guard, Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion students help with costumes and props, and Orchestral parents chaperone on trips and help transport instruments. In December, there are costumes and floats to prepare for the Denver Parade of Lights, in which all Band and Orchestra students are urged to participate, and parent “escorts” are needed along the Parade route. You can find a long list of wonderful opportunities to contribute to our kids’ music successes throughout the school year using your own special interests and skills in the Volunteering section of this website.
