Lakewood High School Orchestra |
|
Lakewood High School is fortunate to have enough depth and interest in its
music program to be able to field two excellent orchestras: the String Orchestra
and the Full Orchestra. Both orchestras participate in local and state
competitions, and in 2004 competed in the North American Music Festival in New
York City. Students from these ensembles consistently win seats in the Denver
Young Artists Orchestra, the Jefferson County All-County Orchestra, the Western
States Honor Orchestra, and the Colorado All-State Orchestra, as well as
earning high scores in the Jefferson County Solo and Ensemble competition. In
January, 2007, the Full Orchestra was honored by an invitation to perform at the
Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs for the Colorado Music Educators
Association convention. Costs A fee of $100 will be collected at registration for students in either Orchestra, as may the District fee of $15. There is no LPAC assessment. Rehearsals are held during the scheduled class time periods. In addition, the Full Orchestra rehearses every Monday after school. Extra rehearsals will be scheduled at the discretion of the Director. Sectionals are scheduled by the section leaders. Performances occur several times a year and are very heavily attended. Attire for Orchestra concerts is formal, with the men wearing tuxedos and the women wearing black concert gowns. Tuxedos will be offered for sale in the $100-$120 range by Mr. Stephen before the beginning of winter concert season. Gowns will be offered for sale for about $90 at the same time and are intended to be uniform throughout the ensemble. However, if a woman owns a slightly different style gown from a previous year it may be acceptable to continue using it. Payment for concert attire is to LHS and is not included in the enrollment fee. Trips may be scheduled throughout the year for performances and competitions. These excursions are not covered by class fees and are the complete responsibility of the participants. Students may wish to apply SAPs earned through fundraisers to help defray their costs. Handbook: Each Orchestra student will receive an Orchestra Handbook from Mr. Stephen establishing his expectations for appropriate preparation, attendance, and decorum during rehearsals and performances.
