Dear Students and Parents, Welcome to the Lakewood High School Instrumental Music Program. I am pleased to have you as part of this group and am anxious to work with you to continue our success as one of the premier instrumental music programs in the area. We have many talented and energetic students at Lakewood, and I feel we have great potential, with your help, to achieve great musical things. Lakewood's instrumental music students understand that they are participating in a performance-oriented group experience requiring, above all, a positive, enthusiastic attitude. This understanding, along with hard work and commitment, will create a fun and musically rewarding adventure for everyone! The Lakewood High School Instrumental Music Department is established in pursuit of the following ideals and goals: 1. ....Enrichment of one's life through music 2. ....Appreciation of a variety of musical styles and experiences 3. ....Development of the social aspects of life and good citizenship 4. .... Development of good work habits and self-discipline 5. ....Learning correct instrument technique 6. ....Learning to sight read and interpret music notation 7. ....Helping to improve school and community relationships 8. ....Enrichment of the LHS experience for the entire student body 9. ....Basic study towards a possible career in music 10. ....Appreciation and understanding of music literature 11. ....Development of skills leading to artistic and expressive performance 12. ....Development of a democratic process through individual contribution to cooperative effort 13. ....Opportunity to master skills beyond the basics for all students 14. ....To gain poise and self-confidence through public performance A music program such as Lakewood's thrives on the pursuit of these goals, and its successes are the result of the leadership and support of its director, staff, students and their parents.
