Lakewood Performing Arts Council

Lakewood High School Winter Percussion

The Winter Percussion Ensemble is made up of students from the Bengal Regiment’s percussion section (“pit”) and drum line, as well as of students who normally play in an Orchestra or on brass or wind instruments. The group performs its award-winning music in competitions locally and state-wide, then travels to Dayton, Ohio to compete in the WGI World Championships. As the name implies, the music is entirely percussive. The Ensemble stages a choreographed show in which the students’ movements add expression and drama to their performance. Members are chosen by audition.

Costs for participation in Winter Percussion are usually around $400. These are an extra-curricular assessment payable to LPAC and are determined by the budget needed for the ensemble. The amount will be determined before the start of the ensemble’s season, and may be offset by SAPs accrued through fundraising. Because this is not a class, there are no LHS class fees due.

Rehearsals are held after school 2-3 days per week, and on Saturdays all day.

Dates and times are determined by the instructor.

Attire is chosen at the discretion of the instructors. Costume fees are typically included in the extra-curricular assessment.

Travel expenses for local competitions and performances are included in the LPAC assessment. Travel to Dayton, Ohio, for the WGI World Championships is assessed separately.

Winter Percussion 2008

Due to some creative fundraising by the Winter Percussion ensemble during the Holiday concerts, the cost of participation for Winter Percussion 2008 has dropped to $470/student. (The bucket was a cute touch!)

The first $300 of the Winter Percussion assessment is due per the installment plan(payments #1 and #2). If you have already paid in full ($500), you can request a refund or leave the additional funds in your student account. Please contact the LPAC Treasurer, Cindy Johnson, email: ci_Johnson@msn.com or phone: 303-987-3225, for more information.
